Top Things for Anne-Lovers to do on PEI!

Step into an Anne of Green Gables summer with raspberry cordial, warm PEI beaches, kindred spirits, red braids, and carriage rides. If you want to explore all things Anne Shirley, these places and events need to be on your PEI bucket list!

First up, watch a play in Charlottetown! Anne of Green Gables is the story of Anne coming to Green Gables for the first time and  Anne & Gilbert: The Musical is the sequel! These productions are so well done and an amazing way to immerse yourself into Anne of Green Gable’s world for a few hours!

Go on a carriage ride at the Anne of Green Gables Museum! During the ride, you will be able to see the famous Lake of Shining Waters! This property belonged to L.M. Montgomery’s Aunt and Uncle, and she visited them regularly throughout her childhood. Montgomery called this place “the wonder castle of my childhood”.

Grab a bite to eat at Avonlea Village and stroll around the shops and historic buildings! Some of the buildings are historic to L.M. Montgomery’s time and there are many places to shop for Anne of Green Gables items such as The Anne of Green Gables Store and Anne’s Chocolates! Avonlea Village is located in the town of Cavendish which is the town Montgomery based Avonlea off of in Anne of Green Gables.

Meet Anne and Dianna at the Green Gables Heritage Place! This is a very popular spot among visitors for good reason! You can visit the Anne of Green Gables house, walk Lover’s Lane and Haunted Woods Trails, and shop for Anne merch at the store. Take a look at the summer activity schedule here!

Spend a day in L.M. Montgomery’s classroom at the Bedeque Area Historical Museum! This tour is great for children and a fun way to learn about one-room schoolhouses in the late 19th century! L.M. Montgomery attended and taught in a one-room schoolhouse as did Anne of Green Gables!

Immerse yourself into Anne’s world for an afternoon by learning how to stitch Anne! The class includes all materials for practicing the stitches. No experience necessary! Book your tickets for August 21st at Mill and Birch in Cavendish. Register by contacting Mill & Birch at 902-962-3942 or millandbirch@gmail.com.

Be sure to visit the Cavendish Shore while you are on PEI as well! Anne loved nature and Prince Edward Island’s beaches are no exception!

“Look at that sea, girls–all silver and shadow and vision of things not seen. We couldn’t enjoy its loveliness anymore if we had millions of dollars and ropes of diamonds.” Anne of Green Gables
